Spring Construction Update

Spring Construction Update

May 1, 2023

Dear SEA families,

Last June, we embarked on a renovation of the School for Engineering and Arts (SEA). Now 11-months into our 16-month long construction schedule, I want to let you know how work has been progressing since my winter construction update...

Among the latest progress is the following work:

  • Temporary lockers were installed for students to use over the winter/spring months

  • The north wing will be isolated with a construction wall so builders can create the future locker area and complete construction of additional bathrooms.  “View” windows were created to allow our curious learners to have a peek into the job site while safely being located on the other side of a temporary wall

  • The new cafeteria flooring was installed

  • Select demo work began adjacent to the future administrative wing, which will allow for a future, secured entry vestibule to our school

The following work will begin over the 2023 summer break:

  • New windows on the east facade, letting in more natural light

  • New permanent interior walls on the upper level, increasing classroom size and improving sound quality

  • New lighting and storage in the Media Center, making it more welcoming and improving sound quality

  • Dimmable LED lighting in classrooms, expanding flexibility

  • New, high efficiency heating and cooling systems

  • New state-of-the-art classroom learning technology in all classrooms

  • Increased in-classroom storage

  • A new, inclusive playground space, which was designed based on input from SEA students!  The playground project will begin the week of May 8th.  SEA students will have access to the city/SEA existing playground and the southside of the field during the month of May. You will notice safety fencing installed and work will begin on preparing the land for the new onsite playground equipment.

We are excited at the scope and scale of improvements being done at our school!  I look forward to welcoming you back next Fall and showcasing the completed renovation!

Sincerely,

Dr. Heather Hanson
