Annual Round Dance

Annual Round Dance

The Robbinsdale Area Schools (Rdale) American Indian Education program is excited to host its annual Round Dance in celebration of Native American Heritage Month. This year’s event will take place from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, at Robbinsdale Middle School.

The Round Dance is a vibrant cultural event that brings together community members for an evening of song, dance, and shared connection. Everyone is welcome to participate in this celebration, which includes traditional music, dancing, and a communal meal.

Deanna Standing Cloud will serve as the emcee, with Courtney Hayes as the Stick Man. The evening will feature special dances such as the Men and Women’s Side Step, Youth Side Step, and a Potato Dance. Four invited singers, Hokie Clairmont, Mike Thunder, Tommy Butcher and Charley Lasley, will share their voices at this gathering, which will also include a hand drum contest.

In addition to the music and dancing, attendees can enjoy a meal provided by the local Indigenous restaurant Owamni.

This year’s Round Dance promises to be a meaningful celebration of culture and community, honoring Indigenous traditions while fostering unity and understanding. The Rdale American Indian Education program will be partnering with Edina Public Schools for this year’s celebration.
