School Board Continues Reimagine Rdale Planning; Next Steps Taking Shape

At its March 16, 2026, meeting (watch the meeting | see the agenda), the Robbinsdale Area Schools Board of Education continued discussion on long-range facilities planning as part of Phase II of Reimagine Rdale: Vision 2030, building on the direction provided at its March 2 meeting.

At that earlier meeting, the Board signaled support for continued planning toward a one-high-school model, with potential system-wide changes that could include creating a unified 9-12 high school, repurposing existing buildings, and reconfiguring middle and elementary schools and programs. Those concepts remain early-stage and under development.

What was discussed at this meeting

This most recent meeting focused on deepening the Board’s understanding of those concepts and clarifying key questions that will shape upcoming decisions.

District leaders provided additional context and responded to Board questions related to:

  • How a one-high-school model could be structured and implemented over time
  • How middle schools, elementary schools and specialized programs (such as Spanish Immersion) could be aligned within that system
  • How student experience would be supported, including belonging, access to opportunities and program availability
  • How facilities across the district could be used or repurposed based on final decisions

Board members also raised important questions and considerations they are hearing from the community, including student opportunities, equity, program access, facility use and long-term sustainability.

Continued focus on financial clarity

District leaders reiterated that this work is grounded in both enrollment trends and financial realities. Enrollment has declined significantly over time and is projected to continue declining, while the district currently operates more buildings than needed for its student population.

More detailed information about project costs, funding options and potential tax impacts is still being developed and will be shared publicly before any final decisions are made.

What happens next

No formal action was taken at this meeting.

Instead, the discussion helped further clarify the direction and information needed for the next phase of planning. The Board is expected to review more detailed concepts and potential motions at an upcoming meeting.

Meanwhile, district leaders will continue developing:

  • More detailed facility and program scenarios
  • Preliminary cost estimates and funding approaches
  • Information to support upcoming community engagement this spring
